The SNIA Announces Additions to its Board of Directors and Technical Council
The SNIA recently announced the addition of Eric Bart of Sun Microsystems, Inc. and Rob Peglar of Xiotech to its Board of Directors. In addition, Don Deel of EMC was recently appointed to the SNIA Technical Council.
The SNIA Board is charged with oversight of the association's vision and mission and ensuring that tangible value accrues to member companies. Board members address issues such as strategic planning, membership development, marketing and public relations, technical output, operational planning, and provide oversight and leadership to the SNIA's many technical forums, committees, and work groups.
Eric Bart replaces long-time SNIA Board member Ray Dunn, also of Sun Microsystems, who is stepping down due to changing work responsibilities at his company. Eric is the senior director of storage management software at Sun and brings a long history of industry and association expertise to the SNIA Board of Directors. As an active industry leader, Bart is also a member of the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) and has been a part of the SNIA Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) Lab and SNIA Conformance Testing Program since the inception of both groups.
A published author and 30-year industry veteran, Rob Peglar has been appointed to an 18-month term to the SNIA Board of Directors. Peglar is currently the vice president of technology for Xiotech, where he is responsible for strategic vision, emerging technologies, defining future offering portfolios including business and technology requirements, product planning and industry/customer liaison. He has been an active member of the SNIA Green Storage Initiative, the Chair of the SNIA Tutorials, and the Secretary and Treasurer for the Blade Systems Alliance.
"We are very pleased to be adding industry leaders to the SNIA Board of Directors, as well as the Technical Council," said Vincent Franceschini, chairman of the SNIA. "These leaders will bring their unique perspective to the table and help us deliver on our recently expanded mission and vision to better help the industry in developing and promoting standards, technologies, and educational services to empower organizations in the management of information."
Franceschini continues, "I would like to take a moment to extend our thanks to Ray Dunn for all he has done for the SNIA. He has been a tireless volunteer and a trailblazer for the organization, and all of us in the storage industry truly appreciate his years of service."
