Highlights from SNIA 2010 Summer Symposium
Held July 19-22, 2010, in San Jose, the SNIA’s annual Summer Symposium continued its tradition of providing unique opportunities for networking, working group meetings, informative keynote sessions, and other exclusive programming. By facilitating work on projects that help advance the core strategic goals of the SNIA - from standards development to educational programs to marketing initiatives – the Summer Symposium plays a key role in the organization’s progress each year.
The well-attended event featured premier keynote speakers Benjamin Woo, Program Vice President, Storage Systems, IDC, and Henry Baltazar, Senior Analyst, The 451 Group, as well as four Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions on the following topics: “The OGF/SNIA Joint Cloud Standards (CDMI) Demo,” a “DMTF Update on Cloud Computing and the Open Virtualization Format (OVF) Specification,” the “Active Archive Alliance,” and “Data Center Bridging – Technical Opportunities for the SNIA?”
In addition, the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative and Technical Workgroup provided a progress report, and Craig Carlson, of QLogic, delivered an industry update on FCoE. The event also featured a joint demo by SNIA and the Open Grid Forum (OGF) of CDMI and the OGF’s Open Cloud Computing Interface (OCCI) - this demo was also performed at the June Meeting of OGF.
During the Symposium, the SNIA also once again hosted the EPA ENERGYSTAR® Data Center Storage Stakeholder meeting, with additional EPA meeting breakout sessions on green storage and related program topics.
