SNIA Plugfests Continue to Drive ProgressThe SNIA Technology Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., continues to be a thriving source of technical progress, as the site for numerous SNIA Plugfests. At a Plugfest, the SNIA provides and supports networks and infrastructure, creating a collaborative framework for testing. In July, the SNIA held a Cloud Plugfest that allowed vendors to bring their implementations of Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) and Open Cloud Computing Interface (OCCI) to test, identify, and fix bugs in a collaborative setting. This work toward interoperable products was highly successful, and another Cloud Plugfest is being planned for the Storage Developer Conference (details to come). The SNIA's Storage Management Initiative (SMI) also holds Plugests at the SNIA Technology Center several times a year to test interoperability across SMI-S implementations, validate Conformance Testing Program (CTP) test updates, and create proof-of-concept implementations of proposals for inclusion in the SMI-S standard. These Plugfests also provide attendees an opportunity to meet with peer developers and folks supporting commonly used CIMOMs. The SMI publishes reports of each Plugfest for public viewing. In addition, SNIA’s technical teams will also host the long-running CIFS/SMB/SMB2 Plugfest at SDC. As in previous years, the Plugfest will be open to all SDC attendees as an open house, delivering a unique insider's view. SNIA Plugfests are an important part of the organization’s work and play a key role in cross-vendor collaboration, allowing participants to come together and assure that technical objectives are accomplished. |
