For release: 13 Oct 2008The SNIA Announces its 2009 Technical CouncilDallas (October 13, 2008) - The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is pleased to announce its 2009 Technical Council responsible for providing guidance and direction on the numerous technical activities of the SNIA. The SNIA's membership elects seven Technical Council members and the SNIA Board of Directors appoints up to two additional members. The Technical Council leaders are the Chairman and Vice-Chairman. They were elected by the Technical Council members at the Storage Networking World Fall 2008 conference.
"As the leader of the SNIA's Technical Council, I am looking forward to working collaboratively with this strong group of industry leaders to help guide the SNIA's technical direction into 2009," said Dave Thiel, Chair of the SNIA Technical Council. "Among our areas of focus will be activities such as standards development including SMI-S and XAM, oversight of our 20+ Technical Working Groups and overall support of the SNIA's mission of advancing storage and information management worldwide." The SNIA Technical Council is a group of industry experts that oversees the broad technical work of the Association. They monitor progress in technology and the industry at large and stay abreast of customer needs. At the same time, the Technical Council seeks new opportunities for the SNIA (e.g., solid state storage, enhancing data integrity and long-term information retention) to expand the SNIA's efforts and thereby provide additional value to the industry. The Technical Council charters, structures and manages the technical groups that develop SNIA standards and software and works closely with the Board of Directors and other SNIA bodies in planning and executing technical activities, governing the Technical Working Groups, reviewing and approving all SNIA architectures and standards, overseeing content development for the SNIA Dictionary, and serving as a technical resource for all SNIA activities, including its role as technical program committee for SNIA's Storage Developer Conference. Please visit www.snia.org for additional information on each Technical Council member. About the SNIA The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is a not-for-profit global organization, made up of some 400 member companies and 7,000 individuals spanning virtually the entire storage industry. SNIA's mission is to lead the storage industry worldwide in developing and promoting standards, technologies, and educational services to empower organizations in the management of information.
