Applications Infrastructure for Distributed Storage

Kevin Przybocki Download

Migration to remote or distributed storage systems can introduce unexpected performance challenges (poor throughput and/or response time) for Enterprise applications. Higher speed or more bandwidth are the first remedies that come to mind; but frequently these do not solve the problem - it's those 'chatty' network/database protocols and distance-related network impairments which are the source of the delay and throughput limitations. These challenges can be addressed by tuning the applications infrastructure - networking and database protocols - to enable the distributed storage system to perform effectively and be resilient to the network impairments which occur in a distributed environment. Using real world examples, this tutorial will describe how companies can evaluate application performance in the lab on an emulated network, adjust protocols to optimize for distributed storage, and verify applications performance - prior to deploying on the production network.

  • Understanding how network applications performance and QoE are affected by migration to remote or distributed storage.
  • Identifying the root causes and potential enhancements to applications infrastructure to address sluggish application performance and throughput.
  • Best Practices for evaluating, testing and verifying application infrastructure performance and enhancements in the lab -- prior to applications deployment on production networks.
