Chaitan Baru, Director, Center for Large-scale Data Systems Research, San Diego Supercomputer Center, UC San Diego.
Chaitan Baru, is Director, Center for Large-scale Data Systems research (CLDS) and a Research Scientist at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, UC San Diego. His technical interests are in the areas of scientific data management, large-scale data systems, data integration, data analytics, and parallel database systems. He has been involved in cyberinfrastructure projects across a range of science disciplines, e.g. earth sciences, ecological sciences, hydrology, earthquake engineering, biomedical sciences, and others. He has been at SDSC for the past 15 years. Prior to that, he was one of the group leads for DB2 Parallel Edition at IBM, where he also participated in the development of the TPC-D benchmark. He led a team at IBM that produced the first audited TPC-D result, 100GB benchmark database on 100 nodes of an IBM SP-2.

Greg Battas, Chief Technologist, Data Management, Hewlett Packard
In the 90’s, Mr. Battas led a team which created some of the earliest Very Large Databases (VLDBs) for data analytics in the telecommunications industry and since that time he has been a veteran of many very large BI implementations. He speaks internationally on the topic of data integration and holds several patents in the areas of Relational Database, parallel query optimization and real time information architectures. In 1995, he co-authored the book with Bill Inmon (known as the father of the data warehouse) which created and defined the construct of an Operational Data Store. Mr. Battas has led engineering teams in the creation of DBMS software, acted as CTO of our IM and BI practice and most recently worked as CTO for our internal IT organization where he helped construct a 1.5PB analytics infrastructure. He is currently the Chief Technologist for Data Management within HP’s Enterprise Servers Storage and Networking group. Mr. Battas holds a degree in Decision Sciences from Indiana University

Val Bercovici, Big Data and Cloud Czar, Office of the CTO, NetApp
Val joined NetApp in 1998 and leads the Strategic Planning Team within the office of the CTO. Working with customers, analysts, and alliance partners, Val focuses on next-generation research projects and is responsible for NetApp’s product vision.
As an early Big Data adopter, Val chairs the Enterprise Data Architecture Track of the Hadoop Summit. Val also introduced the first Cloud Standard to the industry as chairman of SNIA’s Cloud Storage Initiative, whose mission is to foster the growth and success of the cloud storage market. Previously, Val served as the vice-chair of SNIA’s Solid-State Storage Initiative.
Val has over 25 years of IT industry experience spanning NCR (AT&T) and Cognos (IBM), with 12 years in storage at EMC and NetApp. Previously, he worked as a consultant to private industry and government. Val holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Sam Fineberg, Distinguished Technologist, Hewlett Packard
Dr. Fineberg is a Distinguished Technologist in the HP Storage Chief Technologist Office. In that role he leads technical strategy for big data, the cloud, and analytics storage. He helped develop the MPI2-I/O API and has over 20 years of experience in storage and high performance computing I/O. Dr. Fineberg is currently co-chair of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Long Term Retention Technical Working Group, and he is a member of the SNIA Analytics and Big Data Committee.

Joey is an Enterprise Architect with a focus on Big Data, high performance computing, low-latency networking technologies and information security. Joey is currently a Global Analytics Practice Lead at DataDirect Networks, leading services architecture, methodology and delivery. Joey’s area of focus is infrastructure architecture to support scalable analytics environments. Joey has previously held technical and organizational leadership roles at Dell, HP and Sun Microsystems. Joey and his family reside in Austin, TX.

Jonathan Otis, VP, Technology and Alliances, Quantum Corporation Jonathan Otis is a veteran storage professional with over 20 years of experience specializing in data protection. Otis started his career as a reseller and is recognized as one of the first resellers to specialize exclusively in backup and recovery product lines. In 1995, Otis joined ADIC as head of its product management division, which developed multiple industry-leading tape products that still lead the marketplace today. Otis also played a key role in ADIC's corporate development, leading early efforts around OEM sales, fibre channel interfaces and deduplication. Since becoming Vice President at Quantum following its acquisition of ADIC in 2006, Otis has held several executive roles involving the company's deduplication technology, product development, corporate strategy, investments and acquisitions, among others.

Dr. David Pease, Senior Technical Staff Member, Manager of Exploratory Storage Systems, IBM Almaden Research Center
Dr. David Pease is a Senior Technical Staff Member and Manager of Exploratory Stoage Systems at IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California. He has worked in storage research for more than 20 years, and during that time has participated in the development of some well-known technologies such as IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and the UDF file system for DVD and Blu-Ray. He is the inventor of LTFS, and has recently been working closely with SNIA to create the SNIA LTFS Technical Work Group (TWG). He holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering from U. C. Santa Cruz, where he is currently an Adjunct Professor

Rob Peglar, CTO Americas, EMC Isilon
Rob Peglar is Chief Technology Officer, Americas at EMC Isilon. A 35-year industry veteran and published author, he leads efforts in technology and architecture with strategic customers and partners throughout the Western Hemisphere, and helps to define future EMC offering portfolios incorporating Isilon, including business and technology requirements. He is an Advisor to the Board of Directors of the SNIA, is co-chair of the SNIA Analytics and Big Data Committee, and is former Chair of the SNIA Tutorials. He has extensive experience in data management and analysis, distributed cluster architectures, I/O performance optimization, cloud storage, replication and archiving strategy, storage virtualization, disaster avoidance and compliance, and is a sought-after speaker and panelist at leading storage and cloud- related seminars and conferences worldwide. Simona Rabinovici-Cohen, Research Staff Member, IBM Research Laboratory, Haifa, Israel
Simona Rabinovici-Cohen is a research staff member at the IBM Research Laboratory in Haifa, Israel. She holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in computer science, both from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Simona leads Preservation DataStores in the Cloud that provides preservation-aware cloud based storage services to ENSURE European Union integrated project. Preservation DataStores was also the storage infrastructure component in the concluded CASPAR integrated project. In SNIA, Simona co-chairs Long Term Retention technical working group that develops the Self-contained Information Retention Format (SIRF). Prior to that, Simona was the leader of various projects in the area of information integration and knowledge management systems, including kiosk technology deployed in the Hermitage museum in Russia, data integration for performance management, integrated medical records, de-identification, biomedical information integration, and IBM Clinical Genomics solution.

Sanjay Radia, Co-founder, Hortonworks
Sanjay is an Apache Hadoop committer and member of the Apache Hadoop PMC. Prior to co-founding Hortonworks, Sanjay was the chief architect of core Hadoop at Yahoo! focusing mostly on HDFS, scheduling, and compatibility. He has also held senior engineering positions at Sun Microsystems and INRIA, where he developed software for distributed systems and grid/utility computing infrastructures. Sanjay has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in Canada.

Molly Rector, Executive Vice President of of Product Management and Worldwide Marketing, Sspectra Logic
Rector brings more than a decade of storage industry experience to her current role as executive vice president of product management and worldwide marketing. Rector leads a department of channel and market development, creative and marketing communications, public relations and product management professionals. A key member of the executive leadership team since 2005, she helps define and execute Spectra’s future product roadmap and overall corporate direction. In 2010, Rector’s vision led to the formation of the Active Archive Alliance, a non-profit storage industry association, on which she represents one of seven vendor organizations and serves as the chairman of the board. Rector holds certifications as CommVault Certified System Administrator; Veritas Certified Data Protection Administrator; and Oracle Certified Enterprise DBA: Backup and Recovery.

Thomas Rivera has over 27 years of experience in the storage industry, specializing in file services and data protection technology, and is a Senior Technology Associate, with Hitachi Data Systems. Thomas is also an active member of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), participating as vice chair of the Data Protection and Capacity Optimization (DPCO) Committee, and is a member of the Archive & Preservation Special Interest Group under SNIA’s Cloud Storage Initiative.

Mark Seamans, CTO, FileTek
Mark Seamans joined FileTek in early 2010 and has over 20 years of experience in the design, development, and delivery of enterprise software solutions. Mark’s early career included six years as a member of the engineering and professional services teams at NCR/Teradata where he focused on enterprise application development and the deployment of large-scale database solutions. In 1995, Mark was part of the early team at Cardiff Software, a leader in intelligent document platforms, where he served as CTO. Cardiff was acquired by Verity, a provider of enterprise search and automated information processing, in 2003 where he served as Sr. Vice President of R&D until 2006. In 2006, Verity was acquired by Autonomy, a worldwide leader in pan-enterprise search and meaning-based computing technology, where he served as the Divisional CEO and CTO of the Cardiff business unit until 2008. Mark holds an undergraduate degree in Cognitive Science from the University of California, San Diego and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from Colorado's National Technological University

Addison Snell, CEO, Intersect360 Research
Addison Snell is the CEO of Intersect360 Research and a veteran of the High Performance Computing industry. He launched the company in 2007 as Tabor Research, a division of Tabor Communications, and served as that company's VP/GM until he and his partner, Christopher Willard, Ph.D., acquired Tabor Research in 2009. During his tenure, Addison has established Intersect360 Research as a premier source of market information, analysis, and consulting. He was named one of 2010's "People to Watch" by HPCwire. Addison was previously an analyst for IDC, where he was well-known among industry stakeholders. Prior to IDC, he gained recognition as a marketing leader and spokesperson for SGI's supercomputing products and strategy. Addison holds a master's degree from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University.

Dave “Sunny” Sundstrom has worked widely for more than 20 years developing products and delivering services to both the enterprise and high performance technical computing markets. An engineer by education he currently works in product marketing at Oracle on big data and storage solutions. His work before Oracle included developing big data solutions at SGI, Inc., leading global service delivery for Linux Networx, leading development of the NetBeans IDE, and managing enterprise DB benchmarking at Sun Microsystems. Sunny has degrees in Computer Science and Engineering Sciences from Berkeley.
