HoLD: Hands-on Lab for Developers Available at SDC
Platinum Sponsors Sun and EMC are making available a Hands-on Lab
classroom for developers attending the SDC event. The Lab will offer the
opportunity for attendees to experience multiple software development
environments in support of presentations given at the SDC event. The HOLD
will offer:
- Understanding IP Storage Initiators and Targets
The IP storage class educates the student about iSCSI technology through
in-depth coverage of the of the iSCSI initiator and the iSCSI target in
OpenSolaris as well as the OpenSolaris implementation of iSNS. In this set
of exercises, attendees will learn to create iSCSI targets from ZFS pools.
Exercises include using the iSCSI initiator to connect to these targets and
verifying that these LUNs are visible through the initiator. Advanced
exercises include demonstrating a multi-pathing solution for the Solaris
iSCSI initiator and working with iSCSI source code.
- ZFS in Depth
Take a quick tour of some of the key features of the revolutionary new ZFS
file system. In this session, you will perform ZFS operations, including
creating and managing ZFS file systems, storage pools, demonstrate the
self-healing properties of ZFS and experience the differences between
traditional volume management and ZFS storage pools. Advanced exercises
include profiling the performance of ZFS through the use of DTrace.
- Operating System support for Fibre Channel
Explore the inner workings of the fibre channel stack in OpenSolaris with
the developers of the code.
Conference attendees can drop in to the HoLD Classroom and explore the
developer support of the Solaris environment during the hours that Lab is
open. Workstations are available on a first come, first serve basis and
small groups are encouraged to share a workstation if desired.
