DMF Leadership Elections:
The DMF Board of Directors has five board seats up for re-election this year, each for a 2 year term. The terms for the representatives of the following companies will expire when we meet in Dallas during SNW on October 18, 2007:
- IBM, Sun Microsystems Inc., Symantec, Nexsan, Hewlett Packard and Solix Technologies
This is your chance to take a seat on the DMF Board, or nominate those who will influence the direction of our industry for the next two years. Please email your nominations (or questions) to ken.wood@hds.com before September 26, 2007 at mid-night PT.
New Special Interest Group - Forming now!
Due to the growing interest in data de-duplication and space reduction solutions, the Data Protection Initiative has been tasked by SNIA DMF to form a Special Interest Group (SIG) focusing on this topic.
Participation in this group will provide many opportunities for you and your company:
- Ground-floor leadership role in developing data de-duplication and space reduction best practices and standards
- Collaboration on educational, marketing, and outreach activities
- Learn from academic and industry research, and to keep up-to-date on this rapidly-evolving area of our industry
- An opportunity to be informed, to help frame research and standards development, and to help influence projects that SNIA will undertake
During our kick off call we will start the process of formalizing our initial charter and begin working on specific objectives. By participating in this early stage you will help form the direction and ultimate success of the group. Questions? Email jason.iehl@netapp.com

The 100 Year Archive Task Force is now entering the next phase of its work plan to produce a best practices reference model and to move the technical projects into SNIA's technical council and form a technical working group. This is your chance to participate in defining the technical and best practice solutions to the two critical challenges facing our industry - solving physical and logical migration.
