EUC
and ILMI collaboration projects identified
Over
the past two months, the SNIA’s End-User Community
(EUC) and the DMF Information Lifecycle Management
Initiative (ILMI) have joined forces to identify
and prioritize three major projects they will be
working on together:
- A white paper focusing on what Information
Lifecycle Management means to end-users, how to
explain the value ILM provides to upper
management, and how to begin an ILM project
- Development of an ILM maturity model to help
illustrate storage services offerings within an
enterprise
- Creation of storage service metrics
describing the services and measurement criteria
that need to be applied to applications,
business processes, and information in order to
complete an ILM project
All
three projects are beginning now and will continue
over the course of the summer. The objective is to
meet at the summer SNIA
Technical Symposium in San Jose (July 21–24)
to develop drafts of each work project. Everyone
(end–user and developer alike) are invited to
participate in these projects. This is a win–win
relationship for all involved — End–users will
have the opportunity to network and share ideas
with their peers as well as influence the
direction of developers, and developers will have
access to the requirements, objectives, and needs
of end–users.

What's
the XAM Initiative up to these days?
Since
the DMF kicked off what is now known as the
eXtensible Access Method (XAM) project in 2005,
there continues to be interest in the advancement
of the XAM specification among DMF members. If you
would like to see how XAM has been integrated into
4 applications there is new brief online
demonstration available for viewing. Just
click here. Version 1 of the XAM Specification
is available for public review and feedback on the
XAM website at www.snia.org/xam/specs.
