ILM
Initiative to Collaborate with End Users
Vendors
are motivated by decreasing a product's time to
market, but what motivates end users is "time to
solution." That is, getting a solution that really
addresses a specific storage pain. The SNIA End
User Council has offered to cooperate with the DMF
ILM Initiative (ILMI) on short term (3-6 month)
targeted projects to help define requirements,
review and critique ILMI proposed solutions, and
lend real world experience and advice to longer
term goals.
This represents a "win-win"
for all involved because end-users are more likely
to see products entering the market that meet
their needs, and vendors get valuable feedback
earlier in the development cycle.
Solicitations to the end-user community
are anticipated to begin at SNW in early April in
Orlando with pilot projects forming shortly
thereafter. We encourage vendors and end-users
alike to get involved!
Some of the
proposed short-term projects include:
- Best
Practices White Papers
- ILM
Assessment Strategies
- Information
Classification for ILM
- ILM
Policy Management
- Storage
Tiering for ILM
- Data
Deletion in an ILM environment
