SNW Data Deduplication Hands–On Lab Seats still available!
Data deduplication offers a solution to reduce storage capacity that helps reduce overall cost pressures on today's storage infrastructures. Hands–On Labs during SNW Spring 2009 offer a great way to learn more about this hot technology.
Held in “Panzacola F3,” the Data Deduplication lab is available at these times:
Monday April 6: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm & 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm Tuesday April 7: 9:00 am – 10:30 am & 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Wednesday April 8: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm & 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
This lab will guide students through exercises that illustrate how organizations store data using data deduplication technology — across the entire storage ecosystem. Participating vendor solutions that will be used to complete this lab include: Data Domain, HP, IBM, NEC, and Quantum
Upon completion of this lab, students will understand the powerful cost savings this new technology can offer, and the methodologies by which it can be deployed.
As the rate of information growth accelerates, information classification continues to increase in importance as a tool to manage that growth.
However, a large percentage of IT professionals see information classification as difficult, labor intensive, and error prone.
Bob Rogers, Chair of the DMF ILMI contributed an article recently in SNS Europe on this topic. The first in a series of articles, titled Information Classification 101: A Primer on Metadata, is intended to clarify some of the issues with the process, identify several of the techniques, and show how each technique applies to the overall objective of classifying or categorizing information objects within the data center.
