New DIM Taxonomy We welcome your input!
LTACSI is defining a new field we are calling “Database Information Management” (DIM). DIM consists of many practices that have overlapping benefits depending on the way they are deployed and how you define them. These practices can be segregated and implemented in silos, or as part of a larger ILM–based strategy.
Now is the time to participate in articulating and defining this domain. It begins with developing a taxonomy. Our plan is use business drivers to frame the multitude of practices used to manage information as practical way to organize and understand the domain.
This is precisely what the DIM SIG has done. A new paper “Database Information Management Taxonomy of Practices,” is now posted for review. On Thursday, June 18th (tomorrow) we will be reviewing this foundational whitepaper on our bi-weekly DIM SIG conference call.
If you are a product manager responsible for Database products – or – you are a DBA responsible for information and storage management practices related to databases – or – if your work is related to DIM practices such as tiering, migration, test/dev, or Database archive — we need your input to help validate this model!
