Deduplication Webcast available on–demand

The Data Deduplication and Space Reduction SIG held its first Webcast on last week titled “Data Deduplication in the Backup World.” The presenters were Mike Dutch (EMC) and Daniel Budiansky (Data Domain), with Matthew Brisse (Quantum) as our host.

The goal of this program is to provide regularly scheduled educational presentations with the opportunity to ask DMF content experts questions in real-time. This Webinar is the first in a series we are planning for 2009. We will inform you through future eBulletins when the next webinar is scheduled.

If you would like to help by contributing a briefing, or educational presentation to our audience, please email ebull@snia.org and we will put you on the calendar.

Thank you Edgar!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Edgar St. Pierre (EMC) for the many contributions he has made to advance the work of the DMF over the past 5 years. However, his dedication to the DMF is only part of the story.

Edgar is one of those rare volunteers who fully embraced the many education, technology and standards development programs SNIA offers, and has worked tirelessly to advance the storage industry as a whole.

He has provided leadership as Co–Chair of the ILM TWG and the DMF ILM Initiative. He has been an active member of the Green Storage Initiative, and the SMI and Management Framework TWGs.

In addition, he is a frequent speaker at SNW and has been an active contributor to numerous SNW related programs including the Hands–On Lab, Solutions Center and Interoperability demonstrations. Edgar has also authored and co–authored numerous articles to advance SNIA programs and the art and science of storage management practices.

Edgar’s insight and consistent participation will be missed.
Best of luck with your new responsibilities!

Happy Holidays

As 2008 winds down, I would like to reflect on the many accomplishments of the DMF this year. We took on many meaningful projects and continued to return value to member companies and the industry. Here are just a few:

Have a safe and happy holiday season. I look forward to another productive year in 2009!
