OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS: Nominations for DMF Initiative Co-Chairs are now open!
It's that time of year again -- your opportunity to provide valuable
insight, knowledge and vision to a prestigious professional community of
your peers. Are you interested in leading the activities of any of the
following Initiatives? If so, opportunity knocks just once a year and we
want to hear from you!

A brief summary of each of the three DMF initiatives are:

The Long Term Archive and Compliance Storage Initiative (LTACSI) is a
cooperative effort of end users, IT professionals, vendors, integrators, and
service providers with interests in long-term digital information retention
and storage compliance in accordance governmental and business regulations.
The goal of LTACSI <http://www.snia-dmf.org/ltacsi/index.shtml> is to
enable end users to make informed choices about long-term archive and
regulatory compliance storage solutions and to gather end user needs to
guide related SNIA activities. LTACSI operates the 100 Year Archive Task
Force <http://www.snia-dmf.org/100year/> which is a multi-agency project
focused on producing best practices and standards that support very long
term digital information retention.

The Data Protection Initiative (DPI) is defining new approaches and best
practices for data protection and recovery. Members are working to organize
and unify this emerging marketplace by defining new metrics, implementation
guides, and reference models. The goal of DPI
<http://www.snia-dmf.org/dpi/index.shtml> is to build a knowledge base and
the training capabilities to become the worldwide authority on data
protection and retention, and helping all of our constituents to better
understand and implement data protection solutions. The DPI currently
supports the Continuous Data Protection and Virtual Tape Library Special
Interest Groups.

The Information Lifecycle Management Initiative's (ILMI) work began with
defining a vision for Information Lifecycle Management a unifying vision of
what ILM will become and its impact on the datacenter. Now ILMI
<http://www.snia-dmf.org/ilmi/index.shtml> is working on the next elements
of defining the reference architecture for ILM, including data
classification, market & product segmentation, and requirements and use
cases to drive the next release of ILM-related standards in SMI-S.

Initiative Co-Chairs are asked to commit 2-4 hours per week leading
initiative activities it could be the most beneficial hours you spend all
week! Please forward nominations or questions to DMF Chair Jeff Porter at
jporter@snia-dmf.org by Wednesday, November 29th. Elections will take place
