Your source for the latest Data Management Forum News and Events:=20

Welcome to 2007!

The Data Management Forum is looking forward to an exciting, activity =
packed
year. We are finalizing plans for conference participation (SNW Spring =
and
Fall), new white papers, tutorials and speaking engagements, and a major =
web
update. We will have exciting news soon on the Enterprise Information =
World
2007 conference focused on Information-based Management practices for =
the
Data Center. Do you have ideas or comments on what the DMF should be =
doing
in 2007? Send them to porter_jeffk@emc.com. Find a passion and get =
involved
today!

Information Lifecycle Management Initiative (ILMI) Update:=20

The ILMI Professional Services Task Force has been hard at work for the =
past
8 months. The mission of this new task force is to look at the areas of
commonality shared by Professional Services practitioners with regard to =
ILM
engagements. The goal is to review common areas of terminology, process, =
and
scope in order to identify areas that all vendors share in common.

Starting today, and in the next two eBulletins, we will be hi-lighting =
the
fruits of their labor. The first such deliverable from this task force =
is a
tutorial titled, "Calculating the ROI of Information Lifecycle =
Management,"
which was presented by Bob Rogers of Application Matrix at SNW last =
October
in Orlando. This tutorial addresses how Information Lifecycle Management
(ILM) is a way of life; not a product. ILM offers the possibility of
aligning scarce and valuable resources to processes and policies based =
on
their value to the business. Obviously, most businesses have many =
different
applications competing for resources, so service level objectives are
imperative to ensure that performance is adequate. This presentation =
focuses
on a methodology using industry-accepted measurements to estimate the
benefits and cost of an ILM project.
