Ethernet Storage Forum - Mission & Charter

The mission of the SNIA Ethernet Storage Forum (ESF) is to drive the broad adoption of Ethernet-connected storage networking solutions.  The Ethernet Storage Forum fulfills its mission by:

  • Promoting Ethernet-connected storage networking solutions, relevant standards, and the industry’s implementation of these standards
  • Promoting the value of Ethernet-connected storage networking solutions to the industry and its customers
  • Accelerating SNIA’s evolution to a worldwide organization embracing all storage networking technologies
  • Conducting and promoting interoperability demonstrations and plugfests
  • Pursuing alliances and leveraging SNIA committees and events to accomplish education and end-user outreach programs
  • Advocating customer needs and reflecting user concerns and issues back into the industry standards development process. 

The scope of work to be undertaken by the ESF in fulfilling is described in Appendix II of the Ethernet Storage Forum Mission and charter document. 

ESF Governing Board

The activity of the SNIA Ethernet Storage Forum is governed by the policies and procedures adopted by the Ethernet Storage Forum governing body and those defined by the SNIA Board of Directors.  The 2010 ESF Governing Board comprises the following member company representatives:

  • David Dale, NetApp -- Chair
  • Sorin Faibish, EMC -- Vice Chair
  • Gary Gumanow, Dell – Marketing Director
  • Jordan Plawner, Intel - Treasurer

ESF Leadership Team
In Addition to the ESF Board, SIG Co-Chairs include:

  • Jason Blosil - iSCSI SIG Co-Chair
  • Gary Gumanow - iSCSI SIG Co-Chair
  • Alex McDonald, NetApp - NFS SIG Co-Chair
  • Sorin Faibish, EMC - NFS SIG Co-Chair

ESF Special Interest Groups

The Ethernet Storage Forum consists of a number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs), each 
focused on a specific technology.  Every member company of the Ethernet Storage 
Forum belongs to one or more of these SIGs. The role of each SIG is to create and 
maintain the marketing plan related to their area of focus, create content, and provide 
subject matter experts to promote and market their technology.
