SNIA Conformance Testing Program (SNIA-CTP)

SNIA-CTP SMI-Provider Test Capabilities

This page contains summaries of various capabilities of the SMI-Provider test suite.  The test specification should be referred to as the absolute authority of the capabilities and methods by which tests are performed.

Self Certification

Self certification is the ability for a customer to run the test suite at their own site.  This feature is enabled through several options in the test that allow for the immediate pcakaging of test results in a manner that is near tamper proof.  The encrypted results are sent to the SNIA-CTP program team for analysis and thus the issuance of pass/fail results.

This feature was added as many customers could not afford to ship unreleased product to the SNIA facilities for testing.

SLP Testing

The SNIA-CTP 1.0.0 release tested that a WBEM Server advertised it services using the Service Location Protocol version 2.0. The 1.0.0 release required that the server could be found using the query string "service:wbem" - this allowed for either HTTP or HTTPS or both to be advertised. The 1.0.0 release only verified a few of the SLP attributes.

The SNIA-CTP 1.0.2 release will test that a WBEM Server advertises it services based on the WBEM Discovery using the Service Location Protocol Specification. The 1.0.2 release requires that the server advertises the HTTPS service access point. The 1.0.2 release will verify that each advertised attribute is valid (including verifying that the value matches the corresponding CIM value).

Providers which cannot pass this test will not pass the SNIA-CTP certification.

This is the SMI_Infrastructure_2 test case.

SSL Testing

The SNIA-CTP 1.0.2 release test SSL communications by validating whether a WBEM server is advertising over port 5889, the SSL communications port.  If the WBEM server is using the port then the test will pass.  If the WBEM server is not using the port, the test will register a failure but continue so that the user may understand the results from testing the remiander of their configuration.

Providers which cannot pass this test will not pass the SNIA-CTP certification.

This is the SMI_Infrastructure_3 test case.
