StandardsA variety of industry organizations are working on standards for storage and security and we list some of them below. Note that the listings on this page are provided for information only, and do not claim to represent the total number of organizations involved in storage security standards activities. If your technical organization is interested in participating in storage security standards development, or wants to include storage security as part of your standard, please contact the SSIF at ssif-info@snia.org.SNIA Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) SMI-S defines a method for the interoperable management of a heterogeneous Storage Area Network (SAN), describes the information available to a WBEM Client from an SMI-S compliant CIM Server and an object-oriented, XML-based, messaging-based interface designed to support the specific requirements of managing devices in and through Storage Area Networks (SANs). SNIA Content Aware Storage API ( XAM) The SNIA XAM Initiative aims to drive adoption of its forthcoming eXtensible Access Method (XAM) specification. This Initiative will build and serve a XAM community that includes storage vendors, independent software vendors, and end users to ensure that the specification fulfills market needs for a fixed content data management interface standard. These needs include interoperability, information assurance (security), storage transparency, long-term records retention and automation for Information Lifecycle Management (ILM)-based practices. The Distributed Management Task Force, Inc. (DMTF) is involved in the development, adoption and promotion of interoperable management standards and initiatives. INCITS T10 Technical Committee The T10 Technical Committee on SCSI Storage Interfaces is a Technical Committee of the InterNational Committee on Information Technology Standards (INCITS, pronounced "insights"). The T10 Committee deals with SCSI architecture, command sets, protocols, and physical layers for parallel SCSI and SAS T10 operates under INCITS and is responsible for SCSI Storage Interfaces. Its principal work is the Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), including the family of SCSI-3 projects.> INCITS T11 Technical Committee The T11 Technical Commmitee on Fibre Channel interfaces is Technical Committee of the InterNational Committee on Information Technology Standards (INCITS, pronounced "insights"). The T11 Committee is responsible for Fibre Channel, HIPII, and IPI standards. The IEEE P1619 task group is working on a standard for the XTS encryption algorithm, which is suitable for encryption of stored data in a fixed-block device, and a standard for an XML-based key-export format. |
