SSSI Mission and Charter

The SNIA SSS Initiative is dedicated to fostering the growth and success of the market for solid state storage in both commercial and consumer environments. This mission addresses marketing outreach, education, collaboration with other industry bodies (relative to SSD standards), development of specific SSD standards (as needed, via the creation of SNIA TWGs), and a close following of the advancements in the area of non-volatile solid state memory that can be used for storage.

To fulfill this mission, the SSS Initiative is organized around the following goals:

  • Become the recognized authority for storage made from solid state devices
  • Educate the vendor and user communities about storage made from solid state devices
  • Perform market outreach that highlights the virtues of storage made from solid state devices
  • Determine what technical work should be performed within SNIA TWGs to further the acceptance of storage made from solid state devices
  • Collaborate with other industry associations via SNIA's Strategic Alliances Committee (SAC) on SSD-related technical work in which they are involved
  • Coordinate with SNIA Regional Affiliates to ensure that the impact of the SSS Initiative is felt worldwide

The SSS Initiative is responsible for coordinating and managing all activities within the SNIA related to the use of storage made from solid state devices, including those for education, technical development, business development, marketing, implementation and conformance testing. The organizational structure of the SSS Initiative shall be established and restructured as necessary by the SSS Initiative Governing Board to address its areas of responsibility and to ensure the timely execution of tasks within these areas.
