Abstract:

The SNIA’s Scalable Storage Management Technical Work Group (SSM TWG) has developed an open industry standard specification that provides a unified approach for the management of storage systems and data services. Swordfish™ is an extension of the DMTF Redfish specification developed by the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) to provide a unified approach for the management of storage equipment and services in converged, hyper-converged, hyperscale and cloud infrastructure environments, making it easier for IT administrators and DevOps to integrate scalable solutions into their data centers.

Building on the concepts presented in the Introduction to Redfish and Swordfish (Swimming With SNIA Swordfish™) sessions, this session will go into more detail on the Swordfish Scalable Storage Management API specification, including details of the Swordfish Class of Service concepts, structure and usage. The deep-dive will also provide a look at Swordfish schema, and will look in more detail at the two Swordfish Service Configurations that can be used to build different types of storage systems. This session will also present information about the emerging Swordfish profile definitions.
Some prior familiarity with at least introductory information about Redfish and Swordfish will be helpful for understanding this session.

Learning Objectives:
1. Develop an understanding of the different Swordfish Service Configurations, and their appropriate applicability
2. Explore Swordfish Storage Pools and Classes of Service
3. Dive into the depths of Swordfish schema and learn how to understand the different annotations
4. Surface with a detailed understanding of how both Swordfish clients and implementations will use profile information
