Self–contained Information Retention Format (SIRF) Now Available for Public Review
SNIA Draft Technical Work Available for Public Review--need link !
Long Term Retention Technical Work Group
The Long Term Retention (LTR) TWG is focused on the technical challenges
of long term digital information retention & preservation, namely
both physical (“bit”) and logical preservation.
SIRF Use Cases and Functional Requirements
The Self–contained Information Retention Format (SIRF) is a logical
container for a set of digital preservation objects that also contains
catalogs and metadata related to the entire contents of the container as
well as to the individual objects. This logical container makes it
easier and more efficient to provide many of the processes needed to
address threats to digital content.

Highlighting DPCO Partners
–Long Term Retention TWG
–ILM 2.0 Organization
|
The
goals of the DPCO Committee include education, outreach, and advocacy
activities. Since our formation in January 2010, we have met with the
Storage Management Initiative to help define SMI–S requirements, the
Green Storage Initiative and TWG to progress the EPA ENERGY STAR
collaboration, and the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative Cloud
Backup/Recovery SIG. In this issue of the eBulletin we are highlighting
two recent collaborations with our partners: the SNIA Long Term
Retention TWG and the ILM 2.0 organization. We encourage you to
familiarize yourself with these organizations and if you are so
inclined, to join them as they shape our industry’s future.

Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) work developed by SNIA is continuing to progress at www.ilm20.org.
Current work actively proceeds in four directions: developing a
reference model based on ILM as a service management style practice,
further developing the Maturity Model and turning it into an audit tool
for professional service practitioners, developing an information
classification resource for the industry, and integrating ILM2.0 based
practices as a service management infrastructure for long–term digital
preservation systems (digital archives).
For a better idea on what all this means and how it fits together, read the recent publication: ILM2.0: The Next Phase.
Participation is welcome and free.
