Materials for Testing with the SNIA Emerald™ Device Specification V1.0 -- DRAFT

webinar

This page provides access to the materials needed to perform power efficiency measurements on storage devices based on SNIA Emerald™ Power Efficiency Measurement Specification for Data Center Storage Devices Version 1.0. This standard is currently under development and exists only in draft form.

Information on testing storage systems is available here.

A revision history of materials listed on this page is available.

SNIA Standard

The SNIA Emerald™ Power Efficiency Measurement Specification for Data Center Storage Devices is a SNIA Standard developed and maintained by the SNIA Green Storage Technical Working Group.

SNIA Emerald™ Power Efficiency Measurement Specification for Data Center Storage Devices Working Draft Version 0.0.36 dated August 19, 2024 (Device Measurement Specification) is available here for download.

CTS Lite™

CTS Lite is an IO performance test software product, developed by Calypso Systems, Inc., referenced by the Device Measurement Specification for use in Emerald testing of block access storage systems.

CTS Lite can be purchased from Calypso Systems, Inc. For information on purchasing this tool, click here.

User Guide

A User Guide for the SNIA Emerald™ Power Efficiency Measurement Specification V4.0.0 dated May 20, 2020 is available here.

Training

Materials from training sessions on using the Measurement Specification to test a storage product are available. While these materials were developed around Measurement Specification Version 3, they continue to be relevant for Measurement Specification  Version 4.

Tester's Kit

The above materials are available as a single, easy-to-download file, the Emerald Device Tester's Kit. The current version, which supoprts testing based on Device Measurement Specification Version 1.0 is dated TBD. This kit is updated whenever any of the contents are changed. The CTS Lite™ software is not included due to software licensing constraints. Training materials are not included due to size constraints.
