"New and Exciting in DNA Data Storage"
Welcome to the DNA Data Storage Alliance Winter 2026 newsletter! DNA Data Storage continues to make progress on multiple fronts. Here’s what’s happening within the Alliance and in the industry right now.
Leadership News: DNA Data Storage Alliance Leadership Changes
We extend our sincere thanks to our Chair, David Landsman of Western Digital, who is retiring after dedicated service to the Alliance. His leadership and vision have been instrumental in strengthening collaboration across the ecosystem and advancing our shared mission.
As we look ahead, we are pleased to announce that Vincent Franceschini of Biomemory (SNIA Chairman Emeritus) and Robertas Skliaustas of Genomika Lietuva (DNA Data Storage Alliance Board Member) will assume leadership of the Alliance as Co-Chairs.
New Event:Announcing Storage and Computing with DNA (SCDNA) Conference 2026
Join the global community driving the future of DNA-based data storage and computing and connect with scientists, researchers and innovators like you who are shaping the next generation of deep technologies. Learn more about the conference in Rome May 27-29.
Speaking Opportunity: Call for Papers for the SCDNA26 Conference
Selected abstracts will be included in the final program for a 20-minute oral presentation in a relevant session. Submission deadline is March 15, 2026. Submit your proposal here.
Technical Work: SNIA Swordfish® for DNA Data Storage
With a mission to create an interoperable storage ecosystem based on DNA as a data storage and compute medium, the “Modeling DNA Data Storage through Swordfish” working draft is now available for public review! The model describes how the Swordfish API may be used to manage and monitor DNA Data Storage systems. Review the Working Draft here.
Article: Blocks and Files Highlights DNA Data Storage
The article underscores DNA as an exceptionally dense, durable storage medium that can be copied cheaply, read at decreasing costs, and preserved for centuries without becoming obsolete, while also noting its current drawbacks. Read the article here.
