SNIA Cloud Object Storage Plugfest
|
|
Don't miss the 2nd SNIA Cloud Object Storage Plugfest. Building upon the success of our first Plugfest, engineers from Dell, Google, Hammerspace, IBM, Microsoft, NetApp, VAST Data, and Versity Software collaborated to address cloud object storage incompatibilities.
SNIA Cloud Object Storage Plugfest is a unique opportunity for industry innovators to collaborate under NDA and enhance interoperability among private and public cloud object storage solutions. Any organization that develops S3-compatible object storage or other cloud software APIs that deploy object storage in any use case should be involved in this initiative.
Pre-register here to join our calls and add your solution to the Plugfest Interoperability Matrix (first come, first serve). Contact us at askcloudplugfest@snia.org with questions.

SNIA Computational Storage TWG Explores Computing Near Data
|
|
With the completion of technical work on the SNIA Computational Storage Architecture and Programming Model and the SNIA Computational Storage API, the SNIA Computational Storage Technical Work Group (CS TWG) is discussing next steps for compute near data. We are looking at compute in or near memory and how we support orchestration of computation. As we begin this investigation, we welcome new participants to join us in defining subsequent efforts that the CS TWG should focus on.
If you are a SNIA member, please join the CS TWG at https://members.snia.org/workgroup/index.
If you are not a current SNIA member and wish to join the conversation, please contact the CS TWG co-chairs at computationaltwg-chair@snia.org.

Everything You Wanted to Know About RDMA But Were Too Proud to Ask
March 26, 2025
Michal Kalderon, Marvell
Rohan Mehta, Microsoft
Erik Smith, Dell Technologies
In today's world of AI/ML, high-performance computing, and data centers, RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) is essential due to its ability to provide high-speed, low-latency data transfer. This technology enhances scalability, reduces CPU overhead, and efficiently handles massive data volumes, making it crucial for modern computing environments. But how does it actually work? In this session, we'll define RDMA and explore its historical development and significant benefits. In addition, we’ll provide an in-depth look at RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) and InfiniBand (IB), cover the fundamental objects, Verbs API, and wire protocol.
