Deadline Approaching to Submit a Proposal to Speak at SDC

Celebrating its twelfth year, the Storage Developer Conference (SDC) continues to be the only event created by storage developers for storage developers. SDC is now seeking storage development professionals willing to share their knowledge and expertise by submitting a presentation proposal for consideration at SDC. The deadline for submissions is May 11. View the list of topics and submission process here.

Sponsorships are still available for SDC. View the Sponsorship Brochure here.

KMIP Conformance Testing Program Validates Security Products From HP and Cryptsoft

SNIA’s Storage Security Industry Forum (SSIF) recently announced the posting of vendor product conformance test results for the Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) Conformance Testing Program (CTP). The first wave of vendors to submit products and successfully pass the tests include HP’s Enterprise Secure Key Manager (ESKM) 4.0, Cryptsoft’s KMIP C Client SDK (V1.8.0) and Cryptsoft’s KMIP C Server SDK (V1.8.0). Details of the test profiles can be referenced here.

“As an author and supporter of the OASIS KMIP standard, HP chose to submit our HP Enterprise Secure Key Manager 4.0 into the KMIP Test Program for certification as a conforming KMIP server,” said Albert Biketi, Vice President, HP Security, Atalla. “We were very happy with the results along with excellent support from SNIA’s staff, and we fully endorse the test program as independent assurance of interoperability for both vendors and end users of KMIP solutions.”

Download More Presentations from DSI: Cold Storage and IDC Analyst Presentations

SNIA featured two new tracks of breakout sessions at the Data Storage Innovation Conference held last month. These tracks were the Cold Storage track and the IDC Analysts Briefing Track. The presentations in both of these tracks were well attended and highly rated.

Cold Storage is a new area that SNIA is taking interest in, and with the help of SNIA Japan, SNIA organized the presentations in the Cold Storage track found here.

SNIA was also pleased to have IDC as an Analyst Partner of DSI, whose analysts presented on a wide range of topics, which can be found here.

All the presentations from DSI are now available online. Find presentations on Solid State, Cloud Storage, Security, and lots more. Download the rest of the DSI presentations here.

Webcast: Swift, S3, CDMI – Why Choose?

May 7, 2015

When customers ask for support of a given API, can a vendor survive if they ignore these requests? A strategy many vendors are taking is to support multiple APIs with a single implementation. Join this Webcast to learn:

  • What is needed for these APIs to co–exist in an implementation?
  • Basic operations are nearly identical between APIs, but what about semantics that have multiple different expressions such as metadata?
  • Best practices and tips to implementing multiple protocols in your cloud storage solution.

Webcast: Hierarchical Erasure Coding: Making Erasure Coding Usable

May 14, 2015

This technical webcast will cover two different approaches to erasure coding – a flat erasure code across JBOD, and a hierarchical code with an inner code and an outer code. This presentation, part of the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative’s developer’s series, will compare the two approaches on different parameters that impact the IT business and provide guidance on evaluating object storage solutions.

Webcast: Data Center Evolution and Network Convergence

May 18, 2015

Is the technology evolving to a dream come true or a nightmare? If that doesn’t keep you up at night, nothing will. This session from SNIA will untangle, define, and illustrate the main ideas and concepts behind Data Center Evolution and Network Convergence to give context and a solid foundation for discussions with your vendors, as well as for your further reading and investigation. The point of view taken for this presentation is that of the network and transport characteristics in the face of the changes taking place.

Webcast: Persistent Memory Advances: Solutions w/ Endurance, Performance & Non–Volatility

May 28, 2015

Persistent memory solutions deliver the endurance and performance of DRAM coupled with the non–volatility of Flash. This webinar will update you on the latest solutions for enterprise server and storage designs, and provide insights into future persistent memory advances. A specific focus will be NVDIMM solutions, with examples from the member companies of the SNIA NVDIMM Special Interest Group.

SMI–Lab 2015 Plugfest

May 18–21, 2015
Sunnyvale, CA

SMI plugfests are held several times a year to test interoperability across SMI–S implementations, validate CTP test updates, and create proof–of-concept implementations of proposals for inclusion in the SMI–S standard. In addition, plugfests provide an opportunity to meet with peer developers and folks supporting commonly used CIMOMs. This plugfest will be hosted by NetApp.

New Data Recovery/Erase Special Interest Group Formed

A new Data Recovery/Erase Special Interest Group (SIG) has been formed within the Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI) to address challenges of trying to erase all data or attempting to recover data from a broken drive.

The goal of the SIG is to provide a forum in which solution providers and solid state storage manufacturers can collaborate to enable data recovery and erase capabilities in solid state storage in such a way as to ensure that customer demands for these services can be met in a cost–effective and timely manner, with a high likelihood of success.

All are invited to the first open meeting via a conference call on May 13 at 10:00–11:00AM Pacific. To see a brief video and to register to attend, please click here.
