Recent SFF TWG Publications

(From January to June, 2026):

 •   SFP+ Power and Low Speed Interface (SFF-8419 R2.0a)

Defines the low speed electrical and management interface specifications for SFP+ (enhanced Small Formfactor Pluggable) modules and hosts. The SFP+ module is a hot pluggable small footprint serial-to-serial data-agnostic optical transceiver.

•  Mini Multilane 4/8X Unshielded Connector (HDun) (SFF-8613 R3.6)

Defines the physical interface and general performance requirements for the Mini Multilane connector, which is designed for use in high speed serial, interconnect applications at multigigabit speeds and is popularly referred to as the Mini-SAS HD (High Density) Connector system.

 •  Low-Profile High-Density Flexible Cable Connector (SFF-TA-1038 R1.0)

Defines the mechanical specifications and general performance requirements for a Low-Profile High-Density Flexible Cable Connector that is designed for use in high-speed serial interconnect applications intended for multiple generations of system or device internal high-speed applications.

•  SFF Module Management Reference Code Tables (SFF-8024 R4.14)

Provides codes for module identifiers, encoding values, connector types, extended compliance codes, host electrical and module media interfaces, transceiver subtypes, fiber face and heatsink types. This specification is the reference source for identifiers assigned to interpret the memory maps of self-identifying modules. 

•  Management Interface for 4-lane Modules and Cables (SFF-8636 R2.12)

Defines a common management interface for 4-lane pluggable transceiver modules and cable assemblies.

 •  Low Profile PCIe Gen 7 Connector System (SFF-TA-1041 R1.0)

Defines the mechanical and electrical requirements of a pluggable high-speed connector and cable system commonly referred to as ULP (Ultra Low Profile). 

 •  Hybrid Orthogonal EDSFF Connector System (SFF-TA-1044 R1.0)

Defines the hybrid orthogonal interconnect system: a PCB mount connector with a standard EDSFF interface and a cable plug interface, a cable assembly that pass the high-speed signals from the connector to a host board, and a connection to a separate board for low-speed signals. The connector may accept 1C, 2C, or 4C EDSFF devices.

 •  Pin and Signal Definition for the Hybrid Orthogonal EDSFF Connector Specification (SFF-TA-1045 R1.0)

Defines the pin and signal definition for the Hybrid Orthogonal EDSFF Connector and Plug.

 •  Universal 4/8X Pinouts (SFF-9400 R1.1)

Outlines a set of connector pin signal definitions for an internal cable interface. The definitions are designed to prevent physical damage while supporting functionally incompatible applications, such as SAS‑3, SAS‑4, and PCIe®.

SFF: Who We Are

The SNIA SFF carries forth the longstanding SFF Committee work efforts that operated from 1990 until mid-2016. In 2016, SFF Committee leaders transitioned the organizational stewardship to SNIA while retaining the longstanding technical focus on specifications in a similar fashion as all SNIA TWGs do. The SFF now consists of the SFF TWG and the SFF Community.

SFF TWG:

Develops technical specifications as SNIA Technical Proposals for storage media, storage networks, AI networks, and pluggable solutions that complement existing industry standards work that encompasses cables, connectors, form factor sizes and housing dimensions, management interfaces, transceiver interfaces, electrical interfaces, and related technologies. These technical specifications enable technology vendors to procure compatible, multi-sourced products and solutions.

As appropriate, some specifications developed by the SFF TWG may be incorporated into standards or adopted as standards by EIA (Electronic Industries Association), ANSI (American National Standards Institute), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), PCI-SIG (Peripheral Component Interconnect Special Interest Group), or JEDEC.

SFF Community:

The SFF Community is dedicated to supporting the SFF Technical Work Group (TWG) through the promotion and marketing of SFF TWG specifications and its related needs.

Coordinate efforts with other Committees and TWGs within and outside SNIA with respect to related aligned efforts, including the SNIA Standards Committee and SNIA Strategic Alliances Committee.
