Andres Fernandez is Senior Director of Silicon Engineering at Twist Bioscience. He is responsible for the development and production of semiconductor chips used to synthesize DNA for a wide variety of applications. His current focus is on developing chips to enable DNA data storage. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Cornell University. After a post-doc at the University of Maryland, he held positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Etec Systems. He then went on to play central roles at three start-up companies – Glimmerglass Networks, Complete Genomics, and Twist Bioscience. His expertise is in nanofabrication, microfluidics, and MEMS devices.
