Data Deduplication and Space Reduction Special Interest Group (DDSR SIG)
The DMF provides value for its members by increasing the awareness and understanding of trends within the Storage Networking Industry. Currently we are expanding and invite you to join us!
Due to the growing interest in data deduplication and space reduction solutions, the DPI has been tasked by SNIA DMF to form a Special Interest Group (SIG) focusing on this topic.

The goals of the Data Deduplication and Space Reduction SIG are to:
- Bring together a core group of companies that will work together to publicize the benefits of data deduplication and space savings technologies in data protection environments. Participating companies to date include: EMC, HP, and NetApp
- Advance the market adoption of de-duplication and space savings technologies
- Educate end users and the industry regarding value and best practices
Participation in this group will provide many opportunities for you and your company:
- Ground-floor leadership role in developing data de-duplication and space reduction best practices and standards
- Collaboration on educational, marketing, and outreach activities
- Learn from academic and industry research, and to keep up-to-date on this rapidly-evolving area of our industry
- An opportunity to be informed, to help frame research and standards development, and to help influence projects that SNIA will undertake
We recently completed our Mission Statement and are beginning work on specific objectives, such as:
- Defining Terms and Definitions: We are building a glossary related to de-duplication and space reduction. This work is on-going and the results will be passed onto the SNIA Technical Council for inclusion in the next release of the SNIA Dictionary. We are also looking to leverage these results in a white paper or other end-user directed publication.
- Synergy with SNIA Green Storage Initiative: We will be collaborating with the GSI to provide DeDuplication and Space Reduction specific educational materials.
