Members Receive Recognition

During the January, 2011 Winter Symposium in San Jose, the SNIA was pleased to announce its 2010 SNIA Member Recognition Program Honorees. These recipients were selected by SNIA members and staff via an anonymous survey.

There are two categories for the awards; the first is for individuals who made significant contributions to the SNIA. The second recognizes distinctions for group achievements by forum, initiative, affiliate or technical work group. In addition, the first inductees into the new “Distinguished SNIA Contributors” program were announced. These are individuals who have consistently contributed to SNIA while with the End User Council and who remain prepared and willing to continue to do so as members of this prestigious group. Education and SMI contributions were also honored.

“The SNIA’s volunteers are the lifeblood of the organization – without their hard work, we couldn’t exist,” said Leo Leger, executive director of the SNIA. “The SNIA continues its long tradition of significant advancements thanks to the efforts of these groups and individuals, and the industry owes them a debt of gratitude.”

Please join us in thanking the following SNIA individuals and groups for their dedication and the important contributions they make to SNIA and the storage industry.

Individual Awards

The Industry Impact Honoree is an individual who has significantly advanced a cause for SNIA leading to an impact on the industry or the Association. For 2010, Mark Carlson received this prestigious award for the second consecutive year, thanks to his leadership and contribution to the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative’s CDMI specification work.

The 2010 Volunteer Of the Year is an honor given to an individual who consistently steps up to help SNIA achieve something new and groundbreaking, or who significantly advanced an existing program. This year’s award was presented to David Royer, for his efforts as Chairman and formation driver of SNIA Brazil.

The 2010 Unsung Hero award is given to an individual who continually works tirelessly under the radar, expecting no accolades or attention. This year’s recipient was Val Bercovici, awarded for his leadership and contributions to the SNIA’s Cloud Storage Initiative activities.
