SNIA Emerald™ Program Role
The EPA has designated the SNIA as an industry collection and aggregation point for product unit shipment data for ENERGY STAR certified Data Center Storage products. The SNIA Emerald™ Program provides this service for the industry regardless of SNIA membership. SNIA receives and processes manufacturers' unit shipment data in a confidential manner and then submits aggregated results to the EPA per the EPA timeline.
The EPA requires that all ENERGY STAR product brand owner partners report annually their certified product unit shipment data. EPA collects unit shipment data to determine the market penetration of ENERGY STAR products and evaluates the overall performance of the program.
The SNIA Emerald™ Program has provided this service for the industry beginning with data for 2014.
SNIA Emerald Emerald™ Program Function
The SNIA Emerald™ Program Director receives and aggregates unit shipment data for ENERGY STAR certified Data Center Storage Products. These products are in Emerald taxonomy categories Online-2, Online-3 and Online-4. Only the aggregated information, i.e. total product shipments in each of these 3 categories plus the grand total, are reported. The names of the reporting companies are separately reported.

Confidentiality
The data submitted by a company to SNIA is treated as confidential by the SNIA in accordance with this confidentiality policy. Only aggregated data summed over the reporting companies and the names of the reporting companies is reported to the EPA.
