SSD Performance Specification
Solid State Storage (SSS) Performance Test Specification defines the test process, thus assuring consistent results and allowing fair product comparisons. To participate in the ongoing work on the spec, join the SSS Technical Work Group, open to SNIA member companies.
Real World Storage Workload Performance Test Specification
The Real World Storage Workload Performance Test Specification is influenced by many factors, and these factors are quite different than those affecting HDD performance. The unique characteristics of SSDs require that new test methodologies be created, and that traditional metrics be reconsidered. Further, SSD performance is currently being measured in a variety of ways, under a wide range of conditions, making it difficult to directly compare products from different manufacturers. To be successful, the SSD marketplace needs a standard approach to measuring performance that takes into consideration all of the aspects of these NAND Flash-based storage devices.
Reference Test Platform
The Reference Test Platform (RTP) page on snia.org documents the hardware and software platform that was used by the Solid State Storage Technical Work Group (SSS TWG) to validate the SSS Performance Test Specification (SSS PTS). The RTP is not required to run the SSS PTS tests; it is the platform that was used to validate the PTS and is thus known to be appropriate for PTS SSD testing. The RTP is recommended both because it is known to minimize performance bottlenecks as well as provide a standardized and normalized test environment for comparative performance measurement.
Real World Workloads
Recent SNIA Solid State Storage Performance Test Specifications
(PTS) have enumerated standard practices for the capture,
analysis and test using Real World Workloads. The
SNIA Compute, Storage & Memory Initiative (CMSI) and the
Solid State Storage Technical Working Group (S3 TWG) periodically publish reference real world workloads deemed to represent common application use cases.
