Abstract
The Linux Kernel client for SMB3 continues to improve, but full POSIX compatibility required protocol extensions. This presentation will discuss the recent improvements to the Linux cifs/smb3 kernel client:
Much improved posix compatibility
Improved snapshot, copy offload, global namespace and acl support
Support for the new ‘extended stat’ (statx) kernel API
Improved performance (large file i/o, and also for retrieving metadata)
Security improvements (encryption, idsfromsid, and new signing features)
Future direction … what changes to expect in the next few months
