Abstract

Low-power processors are now available to meet the needs of a wide variety of storage controllers. Specific devices are available from a variety of sources for small in-memory controllers, eMMC/UFS controllers for embedded memories, consumer SSD controllers, and enterprise SSD controllers. High-end devices can run Linux to support open-source protocols, as well as standard or custom computational storage and machine learning workloads. Such processors not only perform NAND management, Flash Translation, and Host Control, but also add varying levels of diverse compute capabilities power-efficiently. Thus, the devices offer an alternative source of compute with significant power and cost advantages. Attendees will walk away with a clear vision of how storage devices are undergoing revolutionary transformations.
