The association was established in 1955. Its approximately 11,000 members include records managers, archivists, corporate librarians, imaging specialists, legal professionals, IT managers, consultants, and educators, all of whom work in a wide variety of industries, including government, legal, healthcare, financial services, and petroleum in the United States, Canada, and 40+ other countries.. ARMA also has more than 125 chapters that help provide education and networking on the local and regional levels.
ARMA is active in the United States and internationally in the development of standards and guidelines related to records and information management. It was a key contributor to the international records management standard, ISO 15489. The association also publishes the award-winning Information Management Journal, the only professional journal specifically for professionals involved in managing records and information on a daily basis.
The ARMA recognizes SNIA as a key industry association involved in the development of standards for storage and storage networking technology and wishes to facilitate ARMA input into the SNIA programs and SNIA input into ARMA programs. SNIA similarly recognizes that ARMA, a professional membership association, represents expertise in and development of standards and best practices in records and information management, and wishes to facilitate SNIA input into ARMA programs and ARMA input into SNIA programs.
