Abstract
In the past few years there has been no shortage of storage technologies that have surged into the common vernacular, with even more acronyms: NVMe, SDS, HCI, CI, etc. Many of the paradigms for storage haven’t changed all that much, however, and many of the comparisons and conversations focus around benchmarks and metrics that emphasize the importance of “hero numbers” over practical uses.
This presentation will examine a rubric for examining the right questions to ask, not just the answers. In particular, we’ll be covering
· Uses, implementations, and limitations of Direct Attached Storage solutions
· Software-Defined Storage flavors
· Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) applications and impacts
· Comparisons and Contrasts for Storage Networking Transports
· Scaling Limitations with New Storage Technology
And, perhaps most important of all, knowing the right questions to ask about why to use certain storage environments and technologies to solve real-world problems.
