RAM drive
A quantity of host system random access memory (RAM) managed by software and presented to applications as a high-performance drive.
RAM drives generally emulate disk I/O functional characteristics, but unless augmented by special hardware to make their contents non-volatile, they cannot tolerate loss of power without losing data. See solid state drive.
