Abstract
For those interested in considering flash based SSD as a replacement for hard disk drives in storage systems, this tutorial will provide some things to look at as part of that process. While using the same form factor and interfaces as Hard Disk Drives, SSDs have a greater variation in features and performance. Without discussing specific vendors, this tutorial will show examples of these variations and discuss how they affect using the drives in storage systems.
Learning Objectives
• Learn some of the ways SSDs differ from HDDs and from each other
• Understand some of the things to look at when considering deploying SSDs
