San Francisco, CA (April 22, 2008) — The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is pleased to announce the addition of Eric Bart of Sun Microsystems, Inc. and Rob Peglar of Xiotech to its Board of Directors.
"We are very pleased to be adding two industry leaders to the SNIA Board of Directors," said Vincent Franceschini, chairman of the SNIA. "Both leaders will bring their unique perspective to the table and help us deliver on our recently expanded mission and vision to better help the industry in developing and promoting standards, technologies, and educational services to empower organizations in the management of information."
Eric Bart is the senior director of storage management software at Sun and brings a long history of industry and association expertise to the SNIA Board of Directors. As an active industry leader, Bart is also a member of the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) and has been a part of the SNIA Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) Lab and SNIA Conformance Testing Program since the inception of both groups.
"The storage industry is quickly evolving to keep pace with technology and SNIA plays an important part in this process. As a new member of the SNIA Board, I'm looking forward to helping the association deliver on its expanded mission and focus on the management of information," said Eric Bart, Storage Group, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
A published author and 30-year industry veteran, Rob Peglar has been appointed to an 18-month term to the SNIA Board of Directors. Peglar is currently the vice president of technology for Xiotech where he is responsible for strategic vision, emerging technologies, defining future offering portfolios including business and technology requirements, product planning and industry/customer liaison. He has been an active member of the SNIA Green Storage Initiative, the Chair of the SNIA Tutorials and the Secretary and Treasurer for the Blade Systems Alliance.
"I look forward to joining the SNIA Board, which has already made great progress in 2008 across several key initiatives," said Peglar. "End users and IT staff are facing more challenges than ever. As a member of the SNIA Board, I plan on helping the industry from end users to vendors to the channel better understand and navigate these challenges, with an emphasis on education."
The SNIA Board is charged with oversight of the association's vision and mission and ensuring that tangible value accrues to member companies. Board members address issues such as strategic planning, membership development, marketing and public relations, technical output, operational planning, and provide oversight and leadership to the SNIA's many technical forums, committees, and work groups.
