JEDEC’s work plays a critical role in aligning the global electronics industry around common technical foundations. By providing a neutral forum where companies can collaborate on specifications, JEDEC helps reduce fragmentation, accelerate product development, and enable broad ecosystem adoption. These standards support everything from component design and system integration to manufacturing quality and long-term reliability.
As data-centric computing continues to evolve—driven by AI, cloud infrastructure, and edge deployments—JEDEC standards ensure that memory and semiconductor technologies can scale responsibly and interoperably. This enables vendors, platform builders, and end users to adopt new technologies with confidence, knowing they are built on widely accepted, rigorously developed specifications.
Current JEDEC areas of focus span a wide range of technologies, including main memory such as DDR SDRAM and HBM; flash and storage technologies including UFS, e.MMC, SSD, and XFMD; and mobile memory such as LPDDR. JEDEC also maintains standards for memory module design files, configurations (JESD21-C), registered outlines (JEP95), and PartModel guidelines (JEP30), along with work in lead-free manufacturing, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and wide bandgap power semiconductors.
JEDEC and SNIA are working together to facilitate alignment related to CXL Memory Modules and JC-64.8 (SSD) activities.
