Santa Clara, CA., - SNIA, the global experts and trusted authority for technologies related to handling and optimizing data, today received the Most Innovative Memory Technology Award at the 2023 Flash Memory Summit for three innovative standards: SNIA Computational Storage Application Programming Interface (CS API), SNIA Smart Data Accelerator Interface (SDXI), and SNIA Swordfish®.
“We are proud to recognize SNIA standards development in three technology areas,” said Jay Kramer, Chairman of the Awards Program and President of Network Storage Advisors, Inc. “The SNIA CS API defines the interface between an application and a computational storage device. It supports architectures and enables parallel computation and alleviates constraints on existing compute, memory, storage, and I/O. SNIA SDXI provides standardization of memory structures in moving data, allowing various implementations to choose interconnects and form factors which better support the use case and features, without affecting hardware/software incompatibilities. SNIA Swordfish (ISO®/IEC 5965:2023) provides a unified approach for the management of storage and servers in enterprise data centers, hyperscale providers, and cloud infrastructure environments.”
The SNIA Computational Storage Technical Work Group (TWG) is honored to receive this Award from Flash Memory Summit,” said Bill Martin, Computational Storage TWG Co-Chair. “We have worked hard over the past two years to complete an API that allows applications to take advantage of Computational Storage (CS) on devices without having to change their applications for different operating system implementations of the interface to the CS device and different lower level interfaces to the CS device.”
“SDXI 1.0 is defining a new class of accelerator devices that democratize memory to memory data movement and transformation,” said Shyam Iyer, SNIA SDXI Technical Work Group Chair. “SDXI provides the framework for standardization of accelerator-assisted memory data movement and transformation, enabling data movement between different address spaces, including user address spaces located within different virtual machines. SDXI TWG companies are honored to be recognized by Flash Memory Summit for their work.”
“The SNIA Scalable Storage Management TWG (SSM TWG) and the SNIA Storage Management Initiative (SMI) together are proud to receive this Award from Flash Memory Summit for their work to develop the SNIA Swordfish® API and ecosystem. This award acknowledges SNIA Swordfish’s role as the only standards-based way to manage NVMe® and NVMe-oF™ devices at scale," said Richelle Ahlvers, SMI Chair and SSM TWG Chair. “This achievement reaffirms our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of enterprise data centers, hyperscale providers, and cloud infrastructure environments. With Swordfish, we're not just simplifying management, but also driving the future of storage management and interoperability.”
SNIA Standards are developed by a consensus process and membership vote. SNIA has published over 135 vendor-neutral standards, many of which have been ratified as international standards. Learn more at https://snia.org/tech_activities.
